THREAD COUNT
METHOD USED BY IDFL
IDFL uses the ASTM D 3775 method for thread count. (This method is summarized on the following page.)
The ASTM D 3775 method does not specify the exact physical method of counting individual threads. IDFL uses the three following means of counting threads (all three methods provide equivalent results):
- Measure an inch on both the warp and weft sides and the pick and count all of the yarns within the inch length.
- Use a press to cut out a one inch square, and count all the yarns within the square.
- Place a cut edge of the fabric on a microfiche. Count all the yarns on both the warp and weft sides that are enlarged on the microfiche screen. Multiply by the factor of the viewing area to make a one inch equivalent.
